Free Trial Frequent Questions
Why are you offering a free demo of Zope?
At ZopeTopia we're very enthusiastic about Zope, but we appreciate that you
might be wary about signing up for Zope hosting if you don't know much about it.
So we decided that we'd offer a free 2 week demo so you could try Zope for
yourself, risk-free.
What is Zope? Why would I want to use it?
Depending on who you are, Zope is many different things.
If you're a website designer, Zope is a web server that allows you
to edit your website from within your browser, so no more fiddling with ftp
(unless you want to: Zope can also be accessed via ftp).
If you're a web programmer, Zope is a powerful web application server
that can dynamically generate rich websites that would otherwise need to done
using less user-friendly Perl CGI scripts, PHP or ASP. (Zope itself is written in and
can be extended using Python.)
Read more about Zope and its benefits on our Zope page.
What can I do with my demo Zope folder?
We expect that you will use your Zope demo folder to try out Zope's website development
capabilities. For example, you might what to experiment with building a business site
or putting up photos from your latest holiday to share with family and friends.
We put no hard limits on how big your demo folder might be or how much bandwidth
you use, but using the demo folder simply as a Web-based repository for MP3's or other large
files is abuse and will result in the removal of the demo account.
ZopeTopia reserves the right to deactivate any trial account at our discretion.
Can I send email using my trial account?
No.
We have disabled the use of the Zope Mailhost product in our Zope
trial instance to prevent abuse of our free trial for sending spam.
I can't find my trial folder. Where is it?
Suppose you signed up with the trial account myzopesite.
Your trial folder will be located at
http://demo.LaneStLabs.com/myzopesite, not
http://www.LaneStLabs.com/myzopesite. (Note that the
trial folders are on a different Zope server than this website.)
If it still isn't there, contact us.
My two week trial period has ended. Can I have an extension?
Maybe.
If you think you need more time to try out Zope,
contact us and we'll see what we can do.
