Technical Questions

What operating system do you use on your servers?

We use Debian, the open source operating system of choice for high-performance Internet servers.

What's your hardware?

We run on AMD 2.1 Ghz servers with 1 GB of RAM. All of our servers have ultra-fast Tier 1 connections to the internet backbone.

Where are your servers located?

Our primary servers are co-located in San Antonio, Texas in Server Beach's primary colo facility.

Server Beach has multiply redundant Tier 1 connections to the major Internet backbones and they guarantee 100% uptime, which means that ZopeTopia has constant high-speed Internet access.

Our backup servers are in Toronto, Ontario.

What Web server do you use?

We use Apache, the most popular Web server on the Internet, as our "front-end" Web server.

Behind Apache we run Zope, the next-generation Web application server.

What's your email server ("MTA")?

We use qmail, the fastest growing email server on the Internet. Qmail is known for its security, reliability and speed.

(Incidentally, qmail's creator has US $500 for you if you can find a security hole in qmail.)

What DNS server do you run?

We use djbdns, from the creator of qmail.

What's your backup procedure?

We backup your data once weekly, to ensure minimum data loss in case of a disaster.

For email and DNS backup, our main servers are in Texas and our backup servers are in Toronto. (Contrast that with some people who put their "backup" DNS server on the same subnet.)
